Law Enforcement Should Police Criminal Insurrection While Social Media Platforms Protect Free Speech
In the wake of the seditious attack on our nations capitol, we have to take care that the actions we advocate don’t set unwanted precedent. We have to consider the legal actions that could be taken against Trump and his insurrectionist supporters and in light of how they would or could be applied as precedent the next time folks with those kinds of views win elections. We have to consider how some of the responses to the week’s events will be likely be treated as they inevitably end up in the Supreme Court.

A few Senators willing to put our nation’s needs ahead of their party’s political power could enact profound positive change in our nation’s governing culture. By insisting on electing a Senate leader that can garner the votes of two thirds of his or her peers, a few patriotic senators could restore the dignity and stature of the Senate.
Our nation’s founders clearly intended the Senate to be an assemblage of thoughtful reflective leaders, open to collaboration and compromise. Maintaining such qualities requires both rules and leadership that support them.
